The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance proudly presents Darrell Scott, Dale Jett & Hello Stranger, and Roni Stoneman at The Paramount Center for the Arts Saturday February 13, 2010 , 7:30 pm as part of its new initiative, Birthplace of Country Music @ The Paramount.

This show is sponsored by Alpha Natural Resources, Bristol Virginia Utilities, City of Bristol Tennessee, Fox Tri-Cities, WETS, WOPI, Virginia Commission for the Arts, Tennessee Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

This concert features three members of the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance’s artistic council.

Darrell Scott, an award-winning songwriter, was born on a tobacco farm in London, Kentucky as part of a musical family. Darrell became a session musician in Nashville appearing on albums by Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Randy Travis, Patty Loveless, and dozens more. Darrell channeled his other creative energies into his own songwriting and recordings, with his compositions becoming highlights of albums by Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Kathy Mattea, Maura O’Connell, Guy Clark, and The Dixie Chicks. Darrell’s solo CDs, session work, touring gigs, and live shows have steadily drawn rave reviews. He plays more than 50 shows a year, including prestigious US and UK festivals, and conducts songwriting workshops around the country.

Singer and musician, Dale Jett is a third generation member of the legendary Carter Family — the son of Janette Carter and grandson of A.P. and Sara Carter. He began playing guitar in his late teens when Elizabeth Cotten taught him his first chords and later added his own style of autoharp playing to his repertoire. Like his grandfather, Dale is a “collector” of songs and Dale helped emcee at the Carter Family Fold for many years, where the trio of “Hello Stranger” first performed. “Hello Stranger” features Dale on guitar and vocals, accompanied by his wife Teresa Jett on bass and Oscar Harris playing guitar, mandolin, and autoharp. They have appeared on Mountain Stage, The Marty Stuart Show, The Grand Ole Opry, and performed at festivals and concerts in the US and Canada. Dale’s dedication to the preservation of traditional music, the love of Carter Family songs, and his admiration of other songwriters are evident in his performances.

Roni Stoneman, dubbed "the first lady of the banjo,” may be best known for her role as Ida Lee, the gap-toothed, banjo-playing lady from "Hee Haw." But she's also a fine musician and the current custodian of the musical heritage of her father, Ernest V. "Pop" Stoneman, who had the first million-selling hit in country music with the song "The Sinking of the Titanic," and also had the first country music radio show. In her memoirs, “Pressing On,” she recounts the challenges and struggles she has faced, while continuing her family’s rich musical traditions. Today, Stoneman carries on these traditions performing at various events. Roni will be accompanied by the local band “Wolf Creek.”
