Bristol's Heartwood Video!
Hey everybody — check out this awesome video by Two-Rivers, Heartwood, BCMA, BRRR, Bristol Chamber/CVB, City of Bristol, VA and Believe in Bristol!!! Thanks for everyone participating — we think it is a wonderful representation of what our downtown and communityhas to offer. We are proud to call ourselves Bristolians!!!Journeys End 2011!
On Tuesday, December 13th (inclement weather date is Thursday, December 15th) at 6:30 PM, Journey’s End will again take place in Historic Downtown Bristol! Starting at the Downtown Center and ending at the Paramount Center for the Arts, Journey’s End is our local interpretation of the Latino tradition of Las Posadas (The Inns). Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem is recreated as they go from inn to inn seeking lodging. The final inn welcomes them in and celebrates their arrival. How does Bristol Celebrate Journey’s End?
Our inns are the restaurants on State Street and our innkeepers are various choirs and choral groups. We will begin at the Downtown Center (hot chocolate will be provided) then process by candlelight with Mary and Joseph down State Street. Singing the traditional song and various carols accompanied by instrumentalists, we will arrive at the Paramount Center for the Arts, where we will have gingerbread and hot cider.
This year Mary will be Erin Luther and Joseph will be Adam Gambrell. Along the way, choirs from Redeemer Lutheran Church will be at Shanghai, Emmanuel Episcopal Church at the State Line Bar & Grill, First Presbyterian Church at Manna Bagel Café, State Street United Methodist Church and Central Presbyterian Church at K P Duty, and First Presbyterian Church at Java J's. A special thank you to Southeast Culinary & Hospitality College for providing gingerbread, Java J’s for providing hot cider, the Bristol TN Department of Community Relations for providing hot chocolate and song books at the Downtown Center and last but not least our wonderful musicians — Pete Buhls, Bob Greene, Dale Keller, Ralph Davis, Molly & Dale Keller, Bill Tiller, Heath Vance, Jonathan Davis, Mark Hicks, Andy Morgan, Roger & Ben Leonard and friends.
The Believe in Bristol event lasts a little more than an hour. Restaurants will be taking dinner reservations, several of the downtown shops will be open and The Paramount will be host to an event. Come and celebrate Christmas in the heart of our community!

Bristol's Community Day at Heartwood
It wouldn't be Bristol Day without music entertainment from The Birthplace of Country Music. From Virginia High School's Choirs to the Mayor, BCMA and BRRR have the entire day's soundtrack well covered. The schedule of music entertainment is as follows:10:30am — Virginia High School Chorale & Concert Choirs
Noon — Box Set
2:30pm- Amythyst Kiah
3:30pm — The Harlow Experience (featuring Bristol, VA City Mayor Ed Harlow)
Bristol Artisans Take Part in City of Bristol Day
A wealth of artisans and Downtown Bristol business owners will also be on hand to represent Bristol with a BIG BANG!
Renowned Bristol artist Pat Jessee will represent blowfish emporium with a two-hour "live painting" demonstration of The Harlow Experience as they perform. Fine art photographer Benjamin Walls will display samples of his incredible work; most of his photographs were taken during his world travels. Glass artisan Tammy Carter will also demonstrate her intricate craft. Ed Locket of One of a Kind Gallery will expertly throw pottery on his wheel. Brian Bridgeforth of Bridgeforth Design just moved in to Downtown Bristol and astounds with his amazing computer graphics on site. Nita Vollmer will demonstrate her unique talent of felting — the craft of twisting and molding felt into impressive works of art. 606 Gallery will showcase the work of local artists. The Bristol Train Station, The Paramount Center for the Arts, Cranberry Lane, Theatre Bristol, the City of Bristol, Virginia and Mountain Music Museum will also be represented.
Heartwood is home to The Crooked Road, Virginia's heritage music trail, and serves as the gateway to Southwest Virginia's craft, music, food and local culture. Once inside the 29,000 square foot facility visitors can shop crafts by local artists, juried to be the best of the best, and the most complete collection of Crooked Road old time, bluegrass and gospel music. Heartwood also offers a coffee and wine bar featuring locally roasted coffees and regional wines, and a restaurant that serves locally prepared food with an upscale flair. Heartwood is located just of Interstate 81, Exit 14 near the Virginia Highlands Community College Campus.

Border Bash...Because It's Great on State — July 16, 2010 — Shotgun Party
SHOTGUN PARTY — Shotgun Party puts on a truly American music show. They swing early jazz right on into dance hall country… with rapturous results. The majority of songs are original, with melodies and lyrics that share stories: urban, bucolic, lively and lonesome. Christopher Crepps keeps it real, hot and low on the upright bass; Katy Rose Cox roars delightful on the fiddle; and introducing Jenny Parrott who sings and plays guitar as one who grew up seaside. From all three coasts (New England, California, and Texas) this trio scours through and plays with all the rhythms, modes and melodies this continent has to offer, with a twinge of bizarreness that accommodates any wide-open journey. BOULDER ACOUSTIC SOCIETY — BAS’ music is haunted by the past and focused on the future. It’s indie-folk that draws from Appalachian roots, gritty gospel and the contemporary urban soundscapes. BAS merges tradition with innovation, producing a unique sound and an unforgettable live entertainment experience. Five years, five albums and relentless touring have honed Boulder Acoustic Society into one of tightest and most entertaining bands of any genre. The pulsing percussion and thumping bass of Scott Aller and Neil McCormick support the dual lead vocals of multi-instrumentalists Scott McCormick and Aaron Keim. “Punchline,” the band’s current release on Austin’s Nine Mile Records has been hailed at home and abroad for forging “a new wave of American roots music.” The disc also aptly displays the depth of the songwriting of the four members of Boulder Acoustic Society – a band who wears vintage clothes, savor small batch bourbon, rocks the ukulele. Are they contemporary music with a dark, folky vibe or folk music with poppy hooks and string band textures? Who cares, its BAS and you don’t want to miss them.
