PUSH! Film Festival Late Deadline for Film Competition, Venues Set

April 29, 2015

PUSH! Film Festival is off to a great start with multiple submissions for its film competition! The inaugural festival will be held on June 12-14, 2015 in Historic Downtown Bristol. The festival plans to host a variety of curated movies, workshops and presentations about film, along with screenings of juried films including shorts, features, and films focused on Tennessee and Virginia.

Films will be shown on the big screen in the historic Paramount Center for the Arts, as well as the Birthplace of Country Music Museum's performance theatre and a Friday night kick-off with BVU's Movies in Cumberland Square Park. Workshops ranging from the technical side of film making to costuming and education, will be held for free at the Bristol Public Library. The PUSH! programming committee has received over 75 film submissions so far, with films submitted from Germany, Italy, Australia, Croatia, Belgium, Serbia, and Kazakhstan.

The juried film competition will award prizes in four categories: Best Short, Best Feature, Best Tennessee Film, and Best Virginia Film. With the last two categories, the films must have been shot (in part or in whole) in the relevant state or have been made by a filmmaker whose hometown or current residence is in Tennessee or Virginia.

The regular deadline for the film competition ended on April 20, but filmmakers who missed this date still have time to enroll in the film competition. The late deadline for film submissions is May 18, 2015. Filmmakers can submit their films via Film Freeway, or by sending an email screener link to committee member Rusty Sheridan (Rustysheridan@gmail.com), who is coordinating the film competition. While electronic submission is encouraged, filmmakers can also submit a DVD by mail to Believe in Bristol, Attn. PUSH! Film Festival, PO Box 1931, Bristol, TN 37621.

A small fee for submissions is required — for shorts, Tennessee, and Virginia films, the fee is $25; for features, the fee is $40. Students and educators can submit films for free.

Filmmakers will be notified of the status of their film in early June after going through the jurying process.
