Creative Community Summits on Placemaking — A Main Street Event

July 29, 2015

Tennessee has more than 60 beautiful courthouse squares, historic downtowns and rural villages that have participated in ECD's downtown revitalization programs — Tennessee Main Streets and Tennessee Downtowns. All have unique features, but they share a common trait in having dedicated people who want that downtown to be the best possible place it can be. Whether volunteer, staff or elected official, we all want our communities to be places where people can earn a living, enjoy life and plan a future. And we want a downtown that attracts good things to the broader community.

Invest a day in training and inspiring the people who are driving your downtown revitalization efforts. We're bringing in three national experts to talk about Placemaking, with the same program repeated in East, Middle and West Tennessee. And it's free (including lunch!). Here's the program:

  • Attracting Retail Back to Main Street — Robert Gibbs, founder of the Urban Retail Institute
  • Elements of a Thriving Downtown — Kathy LaPlante, National Main Street Center
  • Synergy of Main Street and Placemaking — Joe Borgstrom, Place & Main Advisors
  • Plus updates from the Tennessee Accelerator Network.

Who should attend? Downtown steering committee board members, downtown managers, chamber officials, entrepreneurs, elected officials with a heart for downtown and anyone interested in making their downtown commercial district a better place.

This is a free event offered on three consecutive dates in three locations, and includes a complementary box lunch. However, capacity is limited so pre-registration if required.
