Bristol Receives American Planning Award

December 15, 2010

The Tennessee Chapter of the American Planning Association awarded the City of Bristol the 2010 Outstanding Planning Award. This award recognized the city for production of the best planning tool in the state for use in small communities. The project receiving the award was the R-E, Established Residential District. This district was recognized as an innovative planning solution involving originality, transferability, quality, comprehensiveness, public participation, and effectiveness. Shari Brown, Director of Bristol’s Community Development Department said, “We are honored to receive this award. It reflects on a tremendous work effort from the many people who work within the department.” Brown continued, “The City of Bristol Tennessee is a very forward-thinking, innovative community, always looking for ways to improve upon how we do things.”

The award also recognized the high degree of the planners’ involvement in the project rather than being consultant-driven.
