Bristol Virginia Democratic Committee to host Bristol Virginia City Council Public Forum

April 09, 2012

On Thursday, April 12th, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. a public forum for Bristol Virginia City Council Candidates will take place at the Bristol Public Library, 701 Goode St., Bristol, VA 24201, in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room. All of the candidates on the local ballot are Independent. This non-partisan public forum is sponsored as a service to Bristol voters by the Bristol Virginia Democratic Committee.

In the local election on May 1, 2012, two members of the Bristol Virginia School Board are standing for re-election unopposed, and they are not included in the Forum. City Council seats are contested, and all candidates have accepted the invitation to participate in the forum. Seeking one of the two open seats on the City Council are incumbent Councilman James R. Heaney and incumbent Councilman Guy Odum, along with two challengers, Catherine Brillhart and Deborah Wagner.

During the forum, each candidate will have four minutes for introductory comments, after which a moderator will ask questions. Questions will be selected from a list of questions collected from Bristol voters. After the questions are completed, each candidate will give a three-minute closing statement.

Interested voting residents of Bristol Virginia are encouraged to attend and meet the candidate. The forum is nonpartisan, and sponsors request that all who attend avoid wearing or carrying buttons, signs, or banners containing campaign slogans as well as clothing with partisan messages. Candidates have been invited to bring campaign materials to be placed on the registration table for attendees to pick up.
