Dollar General coming to Historic Downtown Bristol

August 26, 2013

The City of Bristol Tennessee issued a building permit for a new Dollar General store to be constructed at the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Anderson Street. “The site has been vacant since the construction of Anderson Street Bridge more than six years ago,” said Shari Brown, Director of Community Development. “It’s nice to see new construction in this area. It’s particularly exciting to see construction of a new general merchandise store in downtown Bristol,” Brown continued.

The $680,000 project is being built under the general contracting company of the Broadway Group out of Huntsville, AL. The building will face Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Its exterior will be constructed of split-faced block rather than the block and metal façade typically used. The building will encompass 9100 square feet.

The Dollar General Corporation is a U.S. chain of variety stores headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. As of January 2012 Dollar General operated over 10,000 stores in 40 states. Dollar General offers both name brand and generic merchandise.
