Don't miss Music & Movies in the Park TONIGHT!

July 25, 2011

"Every thursday in July, local bands play at 6:30PM in Cumberland Square Park (Downtown Bristol, VA). Following the bands, we enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars,” says Gail Childress, Director of Community Outreach for BVU. “These events are just one way that BVU is giving back to this great community.” Movies have been filtered for all ages and will be projected on a large-scale inflatable screen at dusk. All movies are new family favorites that are sure to be a hit. A full lineup of the movies is available on the “News & Events” page of www.bvu-optinet.com.

Each Thursday, pre-movie entertainment will be provided by one of five local bands. These bands will play a wide range of music appropriate for all ages. Bands include:
• Amazed By Grace (July 7)
• Bullseye Band (July 14)
• Duty Free (July 21)
• David O’Roark and the Southern Countrymen (July 28)

For the past 5 summers, BVU has sponsored Music & Movies in the Park with a wonderful turnout. “Each year, we see these events grow,” explained Childress. “There are always new faces in the crowds, but our regulars just keep coming back. It really is an event that people get excited about.”

In addition to great entertainment, food vendors and children’s inflatable games will be set up each night – making Music & Movies in the Park a one-stop shop for families. “Many people are looking for low-cost, family-friendly entertainment,” said Chris Hall, Marketing Specialist for BVU. “Music & Movies in the Park is a great choice. Admission is free, and the movies and bands are selected with all ages in mind.”

BVU will also be collecting canned and non-perishable food items to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. “We are coming together for a great community event, but this is also a wonderful opportunity to help our neighbors. If everyone brings just one can of food, the impact will be amazing,” said Childress. “This is an opportunity to take fun events and make them truly meaningful for this area.”

BVU is proud to provide Music & Movies in the Park to this community – along with the help of Citadel Broadcasting Tri-Cities, Mobile Movies, Bristol Virginia Department of Parks & Recreation, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Believe in Bristol and WCQR. Please join this community for the sixth annual Music & Movies in the Park.
