State Street Farmers' Market at the Downtown Center on State Street

June 24, 2013

It is market time in Tennessee so come on out to the State Street Farmers' Market every Saturday morning! Since 1999 the market has been hosted in the Downtown Center where there is the availability of hot coffee and fresh-baked morning biscuits, along with restroom facilities and entertainment most mornings.

Come to the market bright and early while dew is still on the spring vegetables and meet the farmer who plowed the fields, chose the seeds, watched over the plants, and picked the fruit of his harvest to bring to the market. Get to know him and let him tell you all about how the produce was raised and mostly likely share a recipe or two on how to prepare it. Most of the State Street market vendors have been coming to the market for years, so most of the faces will be ones you recognize from the past.

Don’t forget; pick up the first in the series of market posters of the season. There are 6 posters being featured this year. The first Saturday of each month a new poster will be available free of charge for as long as they last. “They are limited,” reminded Terry Napier, Director of Parks and Recreation whose department oversees the market. “This year the posters feature the gardeners and cooks from a simpler time. I think everyone will enjoy the theme this year. I am afraid they are going to go fast, so everyone needs to remember and stop by the market and get their copy early.”

Check out the market webpage at www.statestreetfarmersmarket.org and see what is going on at the market throughout the year.

The State Street Farmer’s Market opens at 8:00 AM and goes to 12 Noon each Saturday through October. For information on vending at the market contact Terry Napier at 423-764-0423 or at tnapier@bristoltn.org.
