Hurray for the Riff Raff

The Tillers, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Rosco Bandana Feature at Border Bash on State Street!

June 17, 2013

We have been having so much fun at Border Bash that King University decided to sponsor a third band Friday night! Border Bash, the twice-monthly free concert series held annually May through August, celebrates its fourteenth anniversary as a roving mini-fest that has grown to include children's activities and vendors in addition to live music. Children's activities will begin at 6:00 p.m.; live music will start at 6:30 p.m. with The Tillers, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and finishing the evening with Rosco Bandana. Admission is free.
About the Bands:

6:30pm — The Tillers — The Tillers have a unique punk background that has produced its wide range of musical styles. The band’s sound features traditional folk, bluegrass, jazz, punk rock and anything else they might run into. The Tillers have shared the stage with Doc Watson, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Guy Clark, Country Joe McDonald, Jerry Douglas, Iris Dement, The Carolina Chocolate Drops and others.

7:45 pm — Hurray for the Riff Raff — Alynda lee Segarra, a 25-year-old Puerto Rican from the Bronx released two records consisting of delicate folk and country songs. Segarra and her gunslinger on fiddle, Yosi Perlstein, met up with a young honky-tonk band called the Tumbleweeds, just as she began to expand her musical palette to include rock-n-roll, pop, and soul. Their new album, Look Out Mama, covers a wide array of musical ground, with every song unified by Alynda’s soulful vocals and expert songwriting.

9:00 pm — Rosco Bandana — Rosco Bandana is a seven-piece American band from Gulfport, Mississippi and is the first group signed to Hard Rock Records. The band is the product of teenage rebellion and its consequences, of lost love, false starts and, above all, lasting friendship. It’s what happens when a group of kids take a chance on a long shot and – against all odds – it pays off. There’s also a Blur cover thrown in for good measure.
