TopShelf Tuesday ~ A Vertical of Pinot Noir

November 08, 2011

You are cordially invited to our 9thTopShelf Educational Tasting, Tuesday November 15th.
Vintage is everything in the world of wine. To many – perhaps most — wine drinkers, it means nothing more than the four digits on the label of the bottle. But those who are attentive will notice that wines show an incredible variation in style and execution from vintage to vintage. We will experience this in a unique and focused setting – our first “vertical tasting!”

Vertical tastings are rare opportunities to compare multiple vintages of the same wine. They are rare because they require collecting several vintages of one or more wines – the work of several years, auction scrounging, or lucky coincidence. The latter was the case for us, as the owner of Sharp Cellars graciously offered to release older vintages of his wine, which in wine jargon is called a ‘library release.’ We will compare the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages of Sharp’s Pinot Noir one by one.

Our tasting will begin with something bubbly and delicious. We will offer light food pairings, but remember that the wines are our focus. The cost is $35 per student.

Veterans of our TopShelf Tuesdays need not read the fine print below, but first timers should read on; either way, make your reservations ASAP since we sold out the last tasting in a matter of days.

The cost is $35 per student, Pre-Payment and Reservations are Required.

Starts promptly at 7:10 and will end around 8:30'ish on Tuesday, November 15th. Compared to our every Saturday tasting this is a ordered presentation (reservation required) so please arrive at 7:00pm so we may start promptly at 7:10pm.

We can accommodate 10 tasters per bottle. This means that we would require at least 10, but we can expand it in increments of 10 to 20. We will set a limit of 30 tasters for the evening to ensure that the evening is enjoyed thoroughly by those in attendance.

The cost will be $35 per person, paid in advance. Accommodations are limited so please call or email to make your reservations as soon as possible. We have always sold out so make your reservations early and we always keep a Standby List.

The wines to be presented are as follows (Wines and Tasting Order is subject to change) :
