Author Talk: Francis Gary Powers Jr.
On May 1, 1960, former Air Forces pilot Francis Gary Powers was shot down over Soviet Russia while flying an espionage mission in a U2 spy plane. The event sparked an international Cold War incident with world-wide consequences. This harrowing story was the basis for the multiple award winning Steven Spielberg film “Bridge of Spies”.
Powers’ son, Francis Gary Powers Jr., will be speaking at the Bristol Public Library on Sunday, October 24 from 2:30 – 3:30 about his book “Spy Pilot: Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 Incident, and a Controversial Cold War Legacy”, his father’s legacy, and his own journey to clear his father’s name and get him the official recognition he was due.
This event is free and open to the public.
