Tab Benoit

August 2 | Paramount Bristol

Get ready Bristol – Louisiana’s favorite guitar slinger is bringing his Cajun-infused blues to the Paramount stage this summer! Benoit is a 3X Grammy Nominated, 4X Blues Music Awards "Entertainer of the Year" and 5X “Contemporary Male” Blues Music Award Winner. The late B.B. King said, “If you really want to know how to play the blues? Watch Tab Benoit.”

Tab Benoit is Louisiana’s No. 1 roots export. He grew up in Houma, Louisiana. A guitar player since his teenage years, Benoit hung out at the Blues Box, a ramshackle music club in nearby Baton Rouge. Playing guitar alongside Tabby Thomas, Raful Neal, Henry Gray and other high-profile regulars at the club, Benoit learned the blues first-hand from a faculty of living blues legends. The nightly impromptu gigs inspired Benoit to assemble his own band – a stripped down bass-and-drums unit propelled by his solid guitar skills and leathery, Cajun-spiced vocal attack. He took his show on the road in the early ‘90s and hasn’t stopped since. He tours the country and is a highlight at the annual New Orleans Jazz Fest. He’s having a blast bringing joy to blues fans everywhere, with catchy common-man lyrics irresistibly wrapped in the rhythms of a music born to turn even the hardest times in life into a celebration.

The Grand Ole Uproar frequently tours the Southeast and Midwest, appearing recently on Knoxville TN's Blue Plate Special Radio Program on WDVX and Balcony TV Nashville. Lonesome River Band’s vocal and instrumental talents seamlessly come together as they perform their trademark sound that fans continue to embrace. Their vocal and instrumental skills are performed by: acclaimed singer-songwriter Brandon Rickman on lead vocals & guitar; the 2017 IBMA Momentum Award Vocalist of the Year Jesse Smathers on lead vocals & mandolin; fiddle extraordinaire Mike Hartgrove; outstanding bassist Barry Reed; and Virginia Country Music Hall of Famer, Steve Martin Prize Winner, and five-time IBMA Banjo Player of the Year, Sammy Shelor.

Lonesome River Band’s long career has been filled with numerous awards and accolades from IBMA and SPBGMA and continues to be one of the most popular and influential bluegrass acts performing today.

About Irene Kelley
When Irene Kelley left her native Pennsylvania to move to Nashville in 1984, she brought along her guitar, a handful of original material and a love for traditional and bluegrass music. She was signed to MCA Nashville’s country division and was adamant about having Carl Jackson, Sam Bush, Mark O’Connor and other bluegrass musicians join her first recording project. This was at a time when bluegrass instrumentation had fallen out of favor along Nashville’s Music Row, so Irene concentrated on the songwriting that exposed her music to millions through hits like “A Little Bluer Than That,” for Alan Jackson, as well as songs performed and recorded by Loretta Lynn, Trisha Yearwood, and Rick Skaggs. More than three decades later, Irene has assumed her place in a long line of great American songwriters.
