The Black Jacket Symphony: The Eagles' "Hotel California"

October 3–4 | Paramount Bristol

The Black Jacket Symphony offers a unique concert experience through recreating classic albums in a live performance setting. The album is performed in its entirety by a group of handpicked musicians specifically selected for each album, with no sonic detail being overlooked — the musicians do whatever it takes to musically reproduce the album. The performance is separated into two sets. In the first set the album is recreated in its entirety as a true symphonic piece. The second set opens with an incredible light display and features a selection of the album’s "greatest hits."

“Hotel California” was released in late 1976 and has sold more 42 million copies. Hits from the album include the title song, “New Kid in Town,” Life in the Fast Lane,” and “Victim of Love.”

She remains one of the youngest performers ever to grace the Grand Ole Opry stage, making her first and everlasting impression on the country music world with her father George Morgan at the age of 13. She is also the first female country vocalist in history to achieve three consecutive RIAA-Certified Platinum albums. As at home with tear-stained ballads as she is upbeat material, she is a fearless song stylist who has been a mainstay in the Billboard Hot Country chart. Hits include “Except for Monday,” “What Part of No,” “A Picture of Me Without You,” “Leave The Light On,” “Something In Red” and “Watch Me.” After the 2016 release of her new album “Letting Go...Slow’ she told Rolling Stone “It seems, in many ways, I am a living, breathing country song, and I know what I sing.”

Free Screening: Paper Tigers

October 10 | Theatre Bristol

Set within and around the campus of Lincoln Alternative High School in the rural community of Walla Walla, Washington, Paper Tigers asks the following questions: What does it mean to be a trauma-informed school? And how do you educate teens whose childhood experiences have left them with a brain and body ill-suited to learn?

In search of clear and honest answers, Paper Tigers hinges on a remarkable collaboration between subject and filmmaker. Armed with their own cameras and their own voices, the teens of Paper Tigers offer raw but valuable insight into the hearts and minds of teens pushing back against the specter of a hard childhood.

Against the harsh reality of truancy, poor grades, emotional pain, and physical violence, answers begin to emerge. The answers do not come easily. Nor can one simply deduce a one-size-fits-all solution to a trauma-informed education. But there is no denying something both subtle and powerful at work between teacher and student alike: the quiet persistence of love.

Two showings: 12pm and 6 pm
