American Ballads: The Photographs of Marty Stuart special exhibit

July 15 – January 31 | Birthplace of Country Music Museum

Although known primarily as a country music star, Marty Stuart (b. 1958) is a master storyteller not only through his songs, but also through his revealing photographs. He has been taking photographs of the people and places surrounding him since he first went on tour with bluegrass performer Lester Flatt at age 13. His inspirations include his mother, Hilda Stuart and her documentation of their family’s everyday life in Mississippi. He also admires bassist Milt Hinton’s photographs of fellow jazz artists and Edward Curtis’s well-known images of Native Americans at the turn of the 20th century. Stuart’s photographs in American Ballads range from intimate behind-the-scenes depictions of legendary musicians, to images of eccentric characters from the back roads of America, to dignified portraits of members of the impoverished Lakota tribe in South Dakota, a people he was introduced to by his former father-in-law, Johnny Cash. Whatever the subject, Stuart is able to tease out something unexpected or hidden beneath the surface through a skillful sense of timing and composition, as well as a unique relationship with the sitters often based on years of friendship and trust.

BPL Theater- The Great Gatsby

January 22 | Bristol Public Library

The Bristol Public Library will be showing The Great Gatsby (2013), starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, on Wednesday, January 22, at 3:00 p.m. Based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this dazzling cinematic experience takes you into the world of the wealthy upper class of New York City during the roaring 1920s! Refreshments will be served!

Midwest native Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) arrives in 1922 New York in search of the American dream. Nick, a would-be writer, moves in next-door to millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and across the bay from his cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her philandering husband, Tom (Joel Edgerton). Thus, Nick becomes drawn into the captivating world of the wealthy and — as he bears witness to their illusions and deceits — pens a tale of impossible love, dreams, and tragedy.

Kasey Williams

January 23 | Cascade Draft House

Showtime at 7PM

"Hello,

My name is Kasey Williams. I am a touring singer-songwriter based out of New York City. I love tacos, margaritas, traveling, family and sharing my story and songs with the world.

I originally moved to New York City, from Johnson City, TN to pursue an acting career. After years of film and stage performances I found myself drawn to a new form of creative expression-songwriting. In the spring of 2009 I started a new journey of becoming a singer-songwriter. At the time I had no experience in songwriting and only sort of knew how to play my instruments, but the desire to push through my limitations was strong, nonetheless. So, I kept writing, started performing live and eventually recorded my debut EP that was released in 2014.

Since the release of my album I have had the opportunity to play some incredible songwriting festivals including the 30A Songwriters Festival in Santa Rosa Beach, FL and the Montauk Music Festival in Montauk, NY. In 2015, I decided to take my music on the road and began touring for the first time. I have since shared my stories and music all over the country. Touring has been the biggest blessing in my life as a songwriter. It has introduced me to amazing people, diverse cultures and to some incredibly beautiful cities.

I have spent the past year and a half recording my new EP "On the Road." These songs hold a special place in my heart and I am so excited to finally share it with the world. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces on tour as well as meeting new ones. Thank you for all the support and love along the way!

Xx
Kasey"
