About the event
Classes will be held at 5:00 pm in the J. Henry Kegley Meeting Room every Tuesday beginning on April 9 and ending on May 28. Each class will be approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Participants must be at least 13, all minors must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $10 per person - due at the time of registration. Register at the Circulation Desk on the upper level of the library by April 1. Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
This ASL course is designed as an introductory journey into the world of sign language. Participants will focus on essential skills, including fingerspelling and basic phrases, empowering them to initiate basic communication with the Deaf community. The curriculum aims to provide a solid foundation for practical, everyday interactions, fostering a comfortable and supportive learning environment.
Participants will receive a copy of The American Sign Language Phrase Book, third edition, by Lou Fant. Our Friends of the Library are kindly covering half of the cost of the books, and will have them available on April 9.
Upon completion of all 8 classes, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for ASL 1.
